Monastery of Saint John the Theologian
On the way to Chalkidiki, at the distance of 30 kilometers from the center of Thessaloniki, is located the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti. The church of the monastery is devoted to Saint John the Theologian and Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian.
At the church there are the bones of Saint Arsenios and in the ground of the church there is the grave of Saint Paisios.
The Elder Paisios was friar at the Mount Athos. However Elder Paisios was living at the monastery for health reasons.
On July 12, 1994, Elder Paisios gave his soul into God. Elder Paisios was glorified on January 13, 2015, by Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
From that day, thousands of Christians from all around the world go to the monastery to worship Saint Paisios.

Monastery of Saint Anastasia Farmakolitria
At the distance of 10 kilometers from the monastery, on the sideways of Vasilika Mountain, is located the old Monastery of Saint Anastasia Farmakolitria. The monastery is open all day (work Hours 7:30 to the sunset)

In the end every traveler has the chance to have a lunch or a dinner at the Agios Prodromos Village (20 kilometers from the monastery of Saint Anastasia). All the taverns of the village serve the famous and really delicious souvlaki. The area is reputed for delicious and qualitative local meat.
